Just you, the mirror, and the moment.

mirror mirror is a Montreal-based self-portrait studio— a space for self-exploration, presence, and capturing something real. For those seeking something beyond posed portraits, our studio invites exploration—of stillness, movement, and raw emotion, captured in its purest form. The result? Classic black-and-white self-portraits that capture not just how you look, but how you feel.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Absolutely! Many of our guests are new to self-portrait photography.

Some people arrive with a vision, while others discover their direction in the moment.

We recommend you to create a playlist that makes you feel something. Music helps set the mood, whether it’s something upbeat that makes you want to move or something calming that helps you settle into the moment.

Beyond that, it’s entirely up to you. If you want to experiment, prepare a collection of reference images for inspiration. If you prefer a more spontaneous approach, simply show up as you are and let the moment unfold naturally.

    For hair, you have options:

If you'd like to use our studio fan for a dynamic, ethereal effect, we recommend leaving your hair down or styling it in a way that allows for natural movement. Loose waves, curls, or long, airy layers work beautifully in this setting, adding a sense of energy and motion to your portraits.

If you prefer a clean, polished look, tying your hair back into a low or high bun creates stunning contrast in black-and-white photography. This style enhances facial structure, drawing attention to your expression and creating a bold, editorial feel.

Whichever style you choose, embrace what feels right for you.
